Visit Highlights
Shatin Sewage Treatment Works (Shatin STW) is the largest secondary sewage treatment works in Hong Kong with a treatment capacity is 340,000 m3 per day. It occupies 28 hectares of land and was commissioned in 1982. The biological sewage treatment process adopted in Shatin STW is the activated sludge process named Modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) process. It is a single-stage nitrogen removal process in which the aeration tank is configured into an initial anoxic zone and a subsequent aerobic zone.
The Shatin STW has an information centre which serves to enhance the communication with the public, students and professionals from both local and overseas institutions on sewage treatment in Hong Kong.
This visit will provide an opportunity to members understand the Sewage Treatment Processes. A technical talk will be delivered by DSD to share their valuable experience on operation and maintenance as well as environmental measure. DSD will also share experience on ISO55001 asset management, ISO50001 energy management, building information modeling etc. in the context of Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) trade / industry.
Fee
Free of charge. Free shuttle bus service between Kowloon Tong and the Shatin Sewage Treatment Works will be provided.
CPD Certificate
3-hour Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certificate issued by BSOMES

Registration & Enquiry
For registration, please complete Registration Form in the following "On Line Registration Link".
The maximum number of participants is 30 pax and prior registration is required. The application is only accepted from BSOMES Members and Student Members.
The deadline of application is 21 April 2015. Name of successful members will be informed by confirmation e-mail by not later than 15 May 2015. If the applicants have not received the confirmation e-mail on or before 19 May 2015, their applications will be regarded as not successful. The successful list will also be posted on BSOMES website of www.bsomes.org.hk for information.
If typhoon signal no. 8 or black rainstorm signal is in force and still hoisted after 6:30 am of 23 May 2015, the technical visit would be cancelled without further arrangement or notification.
Insurance
Limited accident insurance will be particularly provided for Student Members at the venue whilst passenger insurance will be separately provided by the shuttle service provider for all passengers. If deemed necessary, participants are encouraged to arrange their own insurance for protection against any accident coverage for the whole technical visit.
