Towards Sustainability – Sustainable Building Management
Effective sustainable property management practices are very important for both new and existing buildings in order maximise energy and water use efficiency. Acquiring these essential knowledge will also help the occupants reduce their operating costs and extend the building life. In addition, a series of nuisance abatement measures are required to be implemented in order to fulfill both statutory and non-statutory requirements. This 6-hour-long course aims to provide the participants with up-to-date information and the best practices for managing the property.

Learning Outcomes
-Acquire the essential knowledge of sustainable building management, identify the possible environmental problemsand solve them effectively; and
-Apply relevant legislation, prescribed instruction and organising techniques in order to supervise subordinates in
carrying out duties in relation to environmental protection in a correct and lawful manner.

-This course is designed for those responsible for conducting the environmental protection work of their buildings in asustainable way, which mainly on supervision of subordinates in the execution of their duties, or any individuals who wish to have a better understanding of building management.

Tutor
-Ir Benny Y K Wong, Former Deputy Director of Environmental Protection, Environmental Protection Department (EPD)
Ir Wong is a professional environmental and civil engineer with over 30 years’ experience in
infrastructural engineering, environmental engineering and policy management. Ir Wong was the
Deputy Director of EPD until retiring from the civil service in 2012. Ir Wong’s expertise includes
environmental policy and legislation formulation; regulation enforcement; environmental
monitoring and auditing; environmental impact assessment; waste facilities management; waste
pollution control, treatment and monitoring and water/air quality control and monitoring. Ir Wong’s notable projects include the planning and commissioning of the West New Territories Landfill, the Island West and Northwest New Territories Refuse Transfer Stations and the Harbor Area Treatment Scheme; management of all three strategic landfills and old landfills, refuse transfer stations and other waste treatment plants; as well as review of decade old air quality objectives of Hong Kong. Ir Wong is also the past Chairman of the Environmental Division of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers.
