With the theme‘ Engineers and BIM – the Way Ahead’, the HKIE BIM Conference 2016 would provide an excellent platform for professionals in the field of engineering to exchange views on the development of BIM in Hong Kong, the possible risks and, technical and legal challenges that the industry may face in the future.

Launch of a New Green Building Rating Tool for Existing Buildings

 

The new version of our green building rating tool-BEAM Plus Existing Buildings, Version 2.0 – has been released. It can be downloaded at the website of BEAM Society Ltd (www.beamsociety.org.hk).

 

The rating tool is now in the public commenting stage. After finalization, it is expected that registrations for assessment would begin to be accepted in Q1 of 2016.

 

This revision has made the rating tool more flexible to apply as stepwise improvements of an existing building and selective participation in different assessment aspects are now possible. The tool also features enhanced applicability to aged buildings.

 

Members of the institute are encouraged to apply the rating tool to their existing buildings so as to demonstrate their commitment to CSR and sustainable practices.

This International Forum echoes Hong Kong's recent scenario on lead contamination in drinking water. It aims to present a balanced technical view on the complex subject of lead/heavy metals in drinking water, recognising both the rational facts of public health implications and the enormity of the potential costs involved with further actions to be taken, and encouraging solutions that are environmentally sustainable. Experts from both overseas and local renowned institutions will equip audience with proper and pragmatic perspectives about lead/heavy metals in drinking water.

About CIWEM HK
The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) is a UK based Institution and has a history of working in environmental management dating back to 1895. In the succeeding decades, engineers, scientists and other professionals came together to combine their expertise across a broad range of environmental disciplines. The Institution was granted a Royal Charter in 1995 and was proud to celebrate its centenary in the same year.

CIWEM HK was established in 1987 when the Institution of Public Health Engineers merged with the Institution of Water Engineers and Scientists and the Institute of Water Pollution Control to form the Institution of Water and Environmental Management. As the only branch of CIWEM in Asia, the differences in economy, climate and culture make CIWEM HK unique when compared with the other CIWEM branches across Europe. Hong Kong's rapid rate of development combined with a high population density in a relatively small area of readily developable land, present totally different challenges to professionals engaged in managing water resources and the natural environment.

Insurance

Limited accident insurance will be provided for Members at the venue whilst passenger insurance will be separately provided by the shuttle service provider for all passengers. If deemed necessary, participants are encouraged to arrange their own insurance for protection against any accident coverage for the whole technical visit.
