Programme Highlights

Ngong Ping 360 is a tourist experience based on a bi-cable gondola lift running between Tung Chung MTR station and the Ngong Ping village, located next to the Tian Tan Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery. The village and monastery are around 450m above sea level in the mountains of Lantau Island. The cable car system provides an alternative to a long bus journey to get to the tourist attractions.

The cable car route extends from Tung Chung to Chek Lap Kok island before turning 60 degrees to line up for the lift to the hill top. There are 8 cable support towers along the 5.7 km route and the section from Chek Lap Kok to the following support tower is the longest stretch of cable system located over water in the world, for this type of cable car. The journey takes around 25 minutes of stunning panoramic views over Lantau Island and the South China Sea.

The cable car operation is mechanical in nature, although there are substantial numbers of sensors built in to the system to warn the operators of any problems. This makes for a fascinating exploration of the cable track and system, all easily visible at the stations and in the cable car parking garage, which you will get to visit.
